Department of Anthropology of the East
The Department staff members conduct anthropological research into the cultures and societies of Eastern (and, more broadly, non-Western) peoples from ancient times to the present day.
The research topics cover a wide range of issues, including the study of the cultures of the peoples of the East in aspects that require reference to sources, methodology, and methods characteristic of cultural anthropology, social anthropology, political anthropology, historical anthropology, archeology, and other relevant disciplines and subdisciplines.
The Department’s activities focus on doing fieldwork, developing a comprehensive historical and sociocultural approach based on the understanding of anthropology as a fundamentally historical discipline, and corresponding modern methods for studying the societies and cultures of the peoples of the East in various eras.
