The Institute of Oriental Studies (the Russian Academy of Sciences) held a solemn ceremony of signing a Memorandum of Understanding on Wednesday, September the 1st, 2021. The document was signed among the World Council of Muslim Communities, the Foundation for the Support of Islamic Culture, Science, and Education, and the Institute of Oriental Studies, on the establishment and support of the Center for Islamic Manuscripts Center, named after Sheikh Zayed.

From the 24th to the 28th of August 2021, meetings of the Twelfth International Congress of Asian Researchers - ICAS 12 (The 12th International Convention of Asia Scholars) were held. The meetings were called "Shaping Global Culture", they are being organized every two years by the Leiden Institute IIAS (International Institute of Asian Studies).

Bagrat G. Seyranyan has passed away on Friday, the 2nd of July, 2021, at the age of 91. He was the most prominent Russian historian arabist, doctor of historical sciences, professor, chief researcher of the Center of Arab and Islamic Studies of the Institute of Oriental Studies (the Russian Academy of Sciences).
