The history of primitive and traditional art; traditional culture and art of West Africa in the context of globalization; traditional art and architecture as a historical source.
Education
In 1981, he graduated from the History Department of Moscow State University, specializing in History and Theory of Russian and Foreign Art. He worked at the Institute of Africa and the State Museum of Oriental Art. Since 1998, he has been working at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, first in the Department of Comparative Cultural Studies, and since 2025 in the Department of Anthropology of the East. Candidate (PhD) of Art History (1989), Doctor (DSC) of Cultural Studies (2008). In 2015-2022 - field work in the Republic of Mali. Author of more than a hundred works on the history of primitive and traditional art and ethnography of the Dogon people (Republic of Mali).
