International Conference International Conference "Muslim Epigraphy and Book Culture in Russia"

 
From the 17th till the 19th of October, 2022 in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, the international academic and practical conference "Muslim Epigraphy and Book Culture in Russia" was held. The event was dedicated to the memory of the outstanding Russian historian and orientalist Amri Shikhsaidov (1928-2019).

Among the conference organizers were the Institute of History, Archeology, and Ethnography of the Dagestan Federal Research Center (the Russian Academy of Sciences), the Institute of Oriental Studies (the Russian Academy of Sciences), the Institute of History Named after Sh. Marjani.

Alikber Alikberov, the Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies (the Russian Academy of Sciences), Doctor of History, delivered a welcoming speech as part of the plenary session. Also, Vladimir Bobrovnikov,  Ph.D, the Head of Center for the Study of Central Asia, the Caucasus and the Ural-Volga Region (the Institute of Oriental Studies), made a report “Contribution of A. Shikhsaidov and his School of Orientalists-Textologists in the Discourse Deconstruction of Orientalism During the Cold War”. Dinara Dubrovskaya, Ph.D., the Head of the Department of Art and Material Culture (the Institute of Oriental Studies) made a report at the event "200 years of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences - Publications, Events, and People".

All conference participants noted the high organization level of this academic event.
