On the 3rd-7th of October, 2022, the 4th International Academic Conference "Historical, Cultural, Interethnic, Religious, and Political Relations of Crimea with the Mediterranean Region and the Countries of the East" was held in Sevastopol.

The organizers of this scientific forum were: 

  • the Institute of Oriental Studies (the Russian Academy of Sciences), 
  • Sevastopol State University, 
  • the State Historical and Archaeological Museum-Reserve Tauric Chersonesos (on the basis of this museum the event was held).

During the event’s three working days, a total of more than 150 people took part in it: representatives of more than 30 academic organizations, higher educational institutions, and museums.

By the conference commencement, a collection of materials from these academic event participants was published, in which 86 scientific articles were presented.

This forum brought together for the sixth time such a large number of participants, that it has rightfully been considered one of the largest academic events in Sevastopol.

Ms. N. Romanova, Ph.D., the Deputy Director for Research of the Institute of Oriental Studies (the Russian Academy of Sciences) made a welcoming speech to the forum participants  at the conference opening. She opened the plenary session and presented the report “Activities of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Crimea in 2014-2022: Cooperation, Research, Projects, Results, and Future Prospects”.

The conference work was built in the form of nine sections devoted to interethnic and political relations of the peoples of Crimea in the past and present, political, trade, cultural relations of Crimea with the countries of the Mediterranean region and the countries of the East, written sources on the history of the region, historiography and cartography of the Mediterranean and Black Sea waters, ethnic history of Crimea, archeology, numismatics and epigraphy of Crimea in the context of peninsula economic and cultural relations.

A resolution was adopted as a result of this academic event, which has become one of the most significant annual research forums in Sevastopol. The document noted the importance of holding this conference and the need to continue the conference work.
