For the first time, the young generation of Russians had a unique opportunity to follow the footsteps of Miklouho-Maclay and to develop its own expedition project to the island New Guinea. “Expeditions of Three Centuries. Walking by the Footsteps of Miklouho-Maclay” is a project that was created on the basis of unique archival materials of legendary expeditions accomplished in the 19th century by the outstanding traveler N.Miklouho-Maclay on the island New Guinea, as well as modern research expeditions created on the basis of the expeditions of the great scientist, that took place in the late 20th - early 21st centuries. The project immerses in the fascinating world of scientific research of the island New Guinea. It helps to get acquainted with the study continuity of this region by modern researchers and scientists, including N. Miklouho-Maclay Jr.

Within the framework of the project  several educational activities were prepared: interactive exhibitions, a series of lectures, popular science films, a scientific publication in print and electronic form, the Internet library with a selection of books on Russian researchers of the region, the project's website. All these facilities form an integrated approach that will help the ordinary users to take part in the all-Russian Miklukho-Maklai competition to develop their own project of a modern expedition to the island New Guinea. Due to both face-to-face and remote formats of events “Expeditions of Three Centuries. Walking by the Footsteps of Miklouho-Maclay" the project is accessible and relevant for any region of our country.
