The lectures сусle “The Path of an Orientalist” is coming to an end. In this lecture course the researchers from the Institute of Oriental Studies (the Russian Academy of Sciences) speak about their professional development, modern Oriental studies, speakers share their views on the state of modern Oriental studies and talk about the prospects of Oriental studies for the young professionals.

Alikber Alikberov will be the final guest of the cycle “The Path of an Orientalist”. He is the Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies (the Russian Academy of Sciences), Doctor of Historical Sciences, Chief Researcher of the Center for the Study of Central Asia, the Caucasus and the Ural-Volga Region.

Mr. Alikberov is an Islamic scholar, member of the Scientific Councils of the Russian Academy of Sciences on ethnicity and interethnic relations and complex issues of Oriental studies, the Expert Commission of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, the Expert Council under the Federal Agency for Nationalities Affairs, the Expert Group on Improving Legislation in the Sphere of Freedom of Conscience and Religious Associations of the Expert Council of the Committee State Duma for the development of civil society, issues of public, and religious associations.

Mr. Alikberov graduated in 1986 with honors from the History Faculty of Dagestan State University. In 1991 he defended his Ph.D. He has been working at the Institute of Oriental Studies since 1993. He defended his doctoral dissertation in 2020 on the topic “System-Communication Approach to the Study of the History of the East”. He was awarded an honorary diploma of the Education and Science Ministry of the Russian Federation, an honorary diploma of the Russian Academy of Sciences, he was awarded the National Anti-Terrorism Committee with gratitude, and he was awarded a medal of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Moscow. Mr. Alikberov is the Laureate of the Eurasian Prize for Historical Research.

Alikber Alikberov’s research interests: Arabic source studies and historiography of the 7th-14th centuries AD, medieval Arabic manuscripts and epigraphy, Islamic studies, theory and methodology of history, ancient and medieval history of the Caucasus peoples, Khazars and the Arab Caliphate history, Eurasian communications issues and history.

The event will be held in the format of a distance lecture. We invite everyone on Wednesday, the 5th of October 2022 at 17:00. Registration for the lecture is available here. 

The lecture is followed by a question and answer session, where the audience both sends their questions in advance and asks them directly at the meeting.
